Paul Scholes admits his retirement marks the end of an era at Manchester United.
The midfielder along with defender Gary Neville announced an end to a glittering career at Old Trafford last season, leaving Ryan Giggs as the only one left from manager Sir Alex Ferguson's famous 'Fledglings.'
"It's definitely ending. Phil Neville and Nicky Butt left a while ago while Gary is finishing this year," Scholes told the Sun.
"Becks went a while ago, so it's coming to an end. Nothing can go on for ever.
"But there's still Ryan and plenty of other homegrown players at the club."
Scholes has now joined United's coaching staff and wasted no time in challenging the new generation to reach the heights of their Champions League conquerors Barcelona.
"It's nice to go out having won a 19th title. I thought it would be nice to go out by winning the league or the Champions League," he said.
"I managed to get one. But, against Barca, that makes you think, that's the level you need to get to.
"It will give the manager and players the determination to know that is the level you have to be at to be the best in Europe."
A member of the famed 'Class of 92', Scholes made his debut in 1994, going on to make an incredible 676 appearances, the last of which came as a substitute in United's Champions League final defeat to Barca.
He won 10 Premier League titles and, after missing the 1999 Champions League final through suspension, was part of the team that conquered Europe in 2008.
A testimonial match for Scholes will take place on 5 August.
